About Leon Cardinal

As a Climate Change Coordinator at Fishing Lake Metis Settlement (FLMS), I leverage my 36+ years of experience as a carpenter and a housing manager to develop and implement energy efficient solutions for our community. I have a Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety from the University of Alberta and a LinkedIn certification in Project Management, which enable me to plan and execute projects with safety and quality standards. I am passionate about empowering our youth and creating a positive impact on our environment and culture. In 2016, I worked with the youth to bring a 20-year dream of a skatepark to our Settlement, which is a source of pride and joy for them. In 2019, I joined the Indigenous Clean Energy (ICE) Catalyst Program, with the goal of achieving energy independence for our Settlement. Through this program, I have been involved with the Bringing it Home Initiative, a national energy efficient housing development program for Indigenous communities and people. I am currently working on completing phase one of the Indigenous Homes Innovation Initiative, which aims to design and build innovative and culturally appropriate homes for our community. I love working with FLMS and ICE to build sustainable and resilient communities for the present and future generations.
