About Leon Vlieger

I'm currently employed as catalogue editor with the Natural History Book Service (NHBS), based in Totnes, Devon, a specialist mailorder bookstore focusing on wildlife, science, and environmental issues. Here I am responsible for liaising with publisher sales reps, product selection, updating website content, database quality control, research of customer queries, acquistion of requested specialist titles, and negotiating contracts with book suppliers. I graduated as a MSc in evolutionary biology, and defended my PhD thesis on effects of eutrophication on fish mating tactics in November 2010. I have a strong interest in evolutionary biological research, and communication and popularisation of science, and have hands-on experience with experimental work, both in field and laboratory settings, data collection and analysis, and publication of findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Specialties: PCR and use of microsatellites for paternity analyses, presentation skills, scripting and programming using R and AutoHotkey, design and layout using Adobe Illustrator and InDesign, trouble-shooting of software, hardware and network-related problems.
