About Leonora Weil
Dr Leonora Weil has over 20 years’ experience working and training in the NHS and health sector with an interest in Public Health strategy, policy and applied academic research. She studied Natural Sciences at Cambridge University and completed a medical degree at The Royal Free and University College Medical School. She worked as a junior doctor in several hospitals before specialising in Public Health working across national, regional and local systems. She has held leadership roles at NHS England, the UK Health Security Agency, the Department of Health, health protection teams, academic institutions and local authority, collaborating across organisations in areas ranging from health inequalities, vaccine preventable disease, pandemic preparedness and response, and child health. As Director of the London NHSE Legacy and Health Equity Partnership (LHEP), she delivered an innovative initiative focused on closing the equity gap in immunisations, screening and access to health. Most recently she held the role of interim Deputy Director for Health Equity and Inclusion Health at UKHSA with a portfolio that includes inclusion health, children and young people, adult social care, Health and Justice and community engagement, working to ensure that no community is left behind. Leonora is an champion for the public engagement of health with extensive experience in delivering public talks, conference key notes, lecturing at Universities, chairing panels and delivering media interviews. She has written a book, the 'Quick Reference Guide to Medicine and Surgery', published in books, academic journals, policy papers, blogs, magazines and national newspapers and is the founder of Project Health Resilience, a health literacy initiative for young people delivered by doctors in educational settings across London. Leonora is also an advocate for applied research. She has a Masters in Public Health from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, completed a degree in Natural Sciences at Cambridge University and has an academic foundation placement from the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience. Publishing in peer review journals regularly, she holds a number of academic partnerships including co-founding and leading the Local Authority Pubic Health Research Network for London and South Thames, driving the applied research agenda for the capital. She is currently a Committee Member for the NIHR Public Health Research Prioritisation Committee.
