About Lerato Mothapo

I am a self-starting and visionary Urban and Regional Planner with over 17 years experience in the Engineering and Built Environment Sector. I am highly experienced in Land Use Management and Strategic Urban Planning, having worked in a Metropolitan Municipality evaluating development applications and formulating Spatial Development Frameworks. I have extensive knowledge of the local government environment and strategic infrastructure planning within a national roads environment. I have completed the Property Development Programme by SAPOA & UCT GSB, which equipped me with the knowledge and confidence to process property development transactions from end to end. In addition, I have a better understanding of viable developments for the private sector and have an idea of how to balance the scales between pursuing profit and still providing developments that address spatial challenges faced by South African cities. I work for the South African National Roads Agency SOC Ltd (SANRAL) ensuring compliance with relevant sections of the SANRAL Act along national roads, and liaising with local and provincial governments to ensure alignment of planning through their Integrated Development Planning processes. I do this for all four Provinces of Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West. I also mostly play a facilitation and coordination role between SANRAL and various stakeholders to ensure compliance of both SPLUMA and the SANRAL Act. I am an innovative and creative challenge seeker, looking for a work environment that offers meaningful work within a collaborative environment, with the potential to make a meaningful impact in the world. I pride myself in my ability to be a team player, lead with empathy and kindness, be solution and results driven, not afraid to try (and sometimes fail) and learn while adding value to any project and programme I am a part of.
