About Lesley Brown

I worked as a Senior Manager in the County Council for a number of years. I have experience of managing large staff groups (recruitment, supervision, training, disciplinaries, grievances). As a Service Manager for Resources I was responsible for a number of sites across Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe - including, Health and Safety (I hold the IOSH qualification), communications, access, IT, budgets and systems/procedures. I chaired numerous meetings, groups and working parties across disciplines eg health and trade unions. One of my roles was to carry out investigations and prepare reports. I played a key role in establishing the women's mentoring scheme in the Social Services Department and was on the steering group which set up the mediation service. I qualified as a mediator whilst employed by the County Council. I ran training courses on Diversity for managers and Becoming Culturally Competent courses for front line staff and managers. I had a lead role on Emergency Planning - this involved me working closely with both the statutory (Ambulance, Fire and Police) and voluntary sector. I edited the Gedling District Newsletter for five years and served on the editorial group for the Departmental Staff Newsletter. Since taking early retirement in 2006 my goal has been to support and work with disadvantaged groups eg drug and alcohol dependents. I also enjoy working with individuals helping them overcome issues from the past which may be hindering their growth. Specialties: I specialise in "fun" training. I believe my style is unique - I am not necessarily theory based - I prefer to use experiential learning and adapt my style to the individual/group. I use toys and visual aids and inter-active sessions. I have vast experience of working with disadvantaged individuals and groups, drawing on experiences from my personal life to enhance the learning. As a qualified mediator I specialise in conflict resolution for individuals and organisations
