Lesley Cabott, RPP FCIP MA ICD D – Registered Professional Planner Lesley Cabott is the President of the Canadian Institute of Planners. She is a Principal and Planning Lead with Stantec, Professional Planner, Engagement Specialist, Leader and small communities specialist working across Canada with a focus on the Arctic and northern communities. She has over thirty years of experience working with communities, governments, first nations, businesses, utilities and non-government organizations planning and developing policies and strategies for sustainable futures. Lesley has developed and led community initiatives that have received national and international recognition and helped communities realize their vision. Lesley’s planning passion is to help empower communities and organizations to share knowledge and stories through innovative and meaningful processes to create sustainable, resilient and healthy communities. This passion has enabled her to become a sought after advisor, being called upon by the Government of Canada, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, the Royal Town Planning Institute, the Canadian Institute of Planners, The Conference Board of Canada, the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy, the Arctic Council, the Northern Research Institute, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and other organizations for advice on communities, assessing community well-being and adaptive capacity. Lesley works with small communities from coast to coast to coast. She has been working on some leading edge research with Canada and Self-governing Indigenous Governments developing a framework for the ‘Model Small Canadian Municipality. Lesley is a nationally certified Charrette Design Planner and has guided challenging public planning processes to successful outcomes. She has held senior leadership roles in both the private and public sectors. She is the Past President of the Planning Institute of British Columbia, Director on the ChuNiikwan Development Corporation and the Chair of the Yukon Energy Corporation. She has her Institute of Corporate Directors Designation from the Rotman School of Business. In 2022 Lesley was recognized by her peers for her contributions to planning in Canada and became a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Planners.
