About Lesley Ferguson

My heart belongs to the Gulf of Mexico. I was contentedly plodding along in life as the owner of a transcription business when a weekend on the water made an enormous impact on my life; not to be dramatic, but really it was sort of an epiphany. I still vividly remember the feeling that day when I realized I had to put my passion for the water front and center. What in the world was I waiting for? I’m no biology major, not even close, so getting involved in a hands-on capacity had to come from volunteering. I jumped in with both feet, which is pretty much what I do with anything in life. And I never looked back. With all the experience I’ve been able to gather through volunteering, I was lucky enough to combine it with my administrative work experience, and secure a nice job with a beautiful organization, Ocean Conservancy. No, I don’t save whales or keep the marine ecosystems full of fish, but I’m happy to be in the background supporting the great people who do. It’s been a long road to change careers with no related schooling to fall back on, but I’m here and I’m dedicated to helping this organization continue the great work they do in keeping our oceans clean, safe and full of wildlife. Outside of the office I still volunteer as much as possible, and in my spare time I’m either in or on the water!
