About Leslie Saunders

My role at HKS is to mentor the younger design professionals in the Southeast region as they become the next generation of health care facility planners and designers. Drawing from 45 years of design practice for nearly 500 clients in 38 states and on 5 continents, I encourage these young professionals to recognize that buildings are a means to an end; rarely are buildings an end in themselves. Buildings exist to house human functions - living, working, playing. Thus, I seek to help these younger professionals- Assist clients in the formulation and realization of strategic initiatives. Assist clients in the recognition of the long-term implications of near-term decisions. Assist clients and user groups in improving work processes and work outcomes within the given parameters. Assist clients and user groups in understanding how to employ the built environment as a tool in the effective performance of work. And to participate in the planning for and design of built environments that enhance human function and contribute to the social good.
