About Leslie Thomas

I have worked for three different State Departments, each in the area of Human Resources (HR). The 26 years with Department of Corrections (DOC) has given me an extremely broad range of professional experience. Regional Manager of Human Resources my area of responsibility covered approximately 2,500 employees. I have had to build a successful team, located at various offices throughout the state, by showing leadership and initiative. The focus in my area of responsibility has been process improvement with an emphasis on customer service. I have implemented several projects to keep our customers aware of our processes along with Civil Service rule changes, policy changes and much more. I have included staff in decisions and in the development and use of best-practices. My duties include, but are not limited to, payroll, classification, selection, disability management and labor relations. I worked with DOC executives on organizational changes and classification issues throughout the Department. In my current position with the Michigan Public Service Commission I serve as the Director of Administrative Services responsible for directing all administrative activities including but not limited to human resources, labor relations, selection, classification, FMLA, Ergonomics, facilities, office services and IT support for both the previous Michigan Agency for Energy (MAE) and the Public Service Commission. The strengths I would bring to any position are my ability to build engaging relationships, my technical knowledge of HR processes and ability to evaluate an issue and problem solve. My experience with the DOC organizational hierarchy, processes and policies has given me the skills to work within organizational parameters to accomplish tasks while ensuring Civil Service rule compliance.
