About Lewis MacKinnon

I am a dedicated General Practitioner, Medical Educator, and Healthcare Leader with extensive experience in clinical practice, academic research, and strategic governance. As the Founder & Principal Doctor at Skye Medical — with sites in Armadale (RACGP (WA) Practice of the Year 2022) and Canning Vale (established in 2024) — I provide high-quality, patient-centred care with a strong focus on infectious disease, sexual health, and cardiology. At Skye Medical, we are committed to innovative care delivery through well-embedded team approaches. We actively participate in pilot projects and collaborate with Health Service Providers (HSPs), allied and private specialists, and the local primary health network (WAPHA). I hold S100 prescriber endorsements for HIV and HBV Medicine via the WA Department of Health, and my dedication to advancing healthcare was recognised with the RACGP (WA) GP of the Year Award in 2019. In academia, I serve as the Director of General Practice and Clinical Adjuncts at Curtin Medical School and have held formal and honorary positions at other WA Medical Schools, teaching communications and clinical skills. I was awarded the Medical School Dean's commendation for mentorship (2019) and previously held the role of Director of Clinical Education (Placements) at Curtin Medical School and continue to support students through our clinic placements and mentorship from all sites. I am actively engaged in research as a Chief Investigator on multiple NHMRC and RACGP grant-funded projects focusing on my passions of improving chronic disease management, preventative health and supporting general practice career development and training. In governance, I am a North Metropolitan Health Board member, contributing to the finance, audit, and risk committees. I am privileged to chair the Safety and Quality Committee, overseeing clinical governance in six hospital sites and 27 statewide services. I have been appointed to several key roles by the Minister for Health (WA) on various statutory quality, safety, and human research ethics review boards. I also acted as a commercial advisor to multinational healthcare and pharmaceutical companies and co-founded the Sexual Health In Perth South (SHIPS) clinician network. My leadership roles and research are driven by a passion for enhancing healthcare systems, supporting the next generation of doctors as a Senior Medical Educator for Post Graduate GP training at the RACGP, and advocating for innovative healthcare delivery that meets the needs of diverse populations.
