About Lewis Thorwaldson

I dream of a city where my daughter can walk safely to her first day of school alone, if she wants that freedom. I want that for your kids too. I am a multimodal transportation planner with a background in public transport operations and network planning, traffic engineering and active transport. I have been fortunate to build my project and research experience across public, private and academic sectors, from small towns to the largest cities. This unique combination allows me to understand many stakeholder viewpoints and find solutions that bridge their needs. Taking a sabbatical to cycle Latin America and meet transportation professionals from Mexico to Cuba to Colombia has given me a wider view of the world of transport. MRCagney brought me to New Zealand in 2017 and gives an exciting variety of challenges to continue growing while making a positive difference in my new home. The way we move ourselves and goods has a profound impact on the way we live and I am constantly impressed by the elegant chaos of the human ecosystem. We cannot force places but we can visualize the home we want and make decisions that allow our growth to evolve into the collective expression of that vision. There are great opportunities for improvement all around us and my thoughts are constantly focused on them.
