About Lexie Bataan

I have always loved helping others, but this became my passion when others helped me. When I was younger, I tore my ACL. It was the day before lacrosse tryouts of 9th grade and it took me out of the season. Being bedridden made me angry and frustrated, especially with all of my friends on the field. However, with the helps of my orthopedic surgeon, physician assistant and physical therapist I was back to playing sports in 12 weeks. The fact that this team of people had the ability to rehabilitate my life back to normal opened my eyes to what inspires me, to be able to increase quality of life. Hence, my studies in public health, biology, and my Physician Assistant Program. Up until then, my only philanthropic experience was handing out sandwiches with my dad at hurricane relief efforts or small fundraising events for clubs. Since, I have been apart of the program "Medical marvels" hosted by Northwell Health, a program offered to Long Island students on pressing health concerns and topics. My team didn't win but being a part of the competition for two years gave me a lot of insight on how a medical team works and the different parts of a healthcare system. I also participated in a group effort of fundraising money to build a school in an impoverished region of the world. We reached our goal and went to Africa to build this school in a remote village that has never had the right of education in their 300 years of community. Additionally, lifeguarding for the past four years has let me help those and gain a lot of experience through daily customer service and problem-solving skills. I want to continue to help people in any way I can and hopefully make someones life a little better.
