About Liam Anstey

As the Director for Wales at the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), I lead the delivery of the regulator's strategy and objectives in Wales, ensuring that pharmacy professionals and services meet the highest standards of safety and quality. With a background in public affairs and stakeholder engagement, I have built strong relationships with key partners, such as the Welsh Government, NHS Wales, professional bodies, and patient groups, to influence policy and practice in the pharmacy and wider health sector across the UK. I also oversee the communication and engagement activities in Wales, using my expertise in strategic communications and media relations to raise awareness and understanding of the GPhC's role and functions. My career spans across the public, private, and voluntary sectors, where I have worked at strategic and operational levels to deliver results. Prior to joining the GPhC, I was the Head of Media and Public Affairs (Wales) at the British Medical Association, where I led the development and implementation of campaigns and advocacy initiatives on behalf of doctors and patients in Wales. I am passionate about improving health and social care outcomes for the people of Wales and across the UK.
