About Liam Dolan

Liam Dolan is Deputy Director and a Senior Scientist at the Gregor Mendel Institute and co-founder of MoA Technology. Leadership roles in universities, research institutions and charitable trusts have given him extensive experience in administration and governance as well as scientific research. Liam was the Sherardian Professor of Botany at the University of Oxford between 2009 and 2020. He was also Senior Fellow at the Oxford Martin School and Keeper of the University of Oxford Botanic Garden at that time. His fundamental research identifies developmental mechanisms controlling plant growth and development. His lab uses genes and fossils to understand how plant bodies evolved during the course of 500 million years of evolution. He was elected a fellow of The Royal Society in 2014 for his contributions to science. Liam is a Non-Executive Director of MoA Technology where he was the Founding Director. The company develops technologies to tackle the threat of herbicide resistance in agriculture. He is a trustee of the New Phytologist Foundation and the Crito project for prisoner education in the UK. He was the Queen's Trustee at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. He has worked with a number of small non profit organisations including the Norwich Hepatitis Support Group.
