About Liam Kipling P. Eng

I currently work as a Mechanical Engineer, setting up a production facility to manufacture ballistic helmets. This includes collaborating with contracted suppliers; analysis of molding processes and assisting the design team on CI tasks. Previously I was an R&D Mechanical Designer in the packaging industry, with a focus on designing and developing new machines. My projects have included a NSF compliant weigh-fill machine for raw poultry, a carton-liner and a primary packaging system for pre-rolls. Prior to this I was a Jr Mechanical Designer at Axis Lighting. During my time in the engineering department at Axis I took the opportunity to become familiar with how most aspects of a factory operate, and worked closely with wide range of different departments. I learned how concepts and solutions can be portrayed best in order to communicate them across all the relevant bodies within a workforce, especially one which is diverse and contains a mix of people working on-office and remotely. Previously I worked as a CAD and Sample Technician, also at Axis Lighting. I gained hands-on experience assisting prototype and design development for an industry leading architectural lighting company. My responsibilities included managing the R&D lab, operating and maintaining state of the art FDM and Polyjet 3D printers and construction of rapid lead-time prototypes. My first job after graduation was a Project Manager role at the same company. I successfully managed over $11 million worth of projects for a sales region stretching from New York to North Carolina. After one year I transferred to the engineering department, as this was a career change concomitant with my degree. I graduated from The University of Manchester in 2019 with a first-class Masters degree in mechanical engineering. My long-term career goals are to find a role where I can utilize and further develop this engineering knowledge. In the short-term I wish to gain a wide range of industry experience that will better enable me to apply the knowledge I gained during the course of my degree.
