About Liam Lavoie

UNH - Master of Social Work program Graduate. I have a passion for helping adolescents grow; after all, kids are tomorrow's adults. Every child deserves a shot at greatness. I have recently completed an internship with the Pinkerton Academy PASSES program, a special education program for teens who have emotional disabilities. Most students of that program have a trauma history, so through this internship I have refined my skills in therapy framework application (Motivational Interviewing, CBT); I have also refined personal communication skills such as compassion, patience, and active listening. Prior to this internship, I have worked in a special education setting at Pinkerton Academy for two years. I am familiar with the logistics of developing IEPs and holding accountability for them. I have networked with students' families to determine the best ways to provide them with not only an education but also a positive social setting and a role model. Before working in that setting, I also volunteered for a year in an after school day-care program for elementary school students. My other experience includes one year of macro-level internship work with Connor's Climb, a New Hampshire suicide prevention organization. At Connor's Climb, we worked on developing positive policies to provide "upstream" suicide prevention to New Hampshire residents. I analyzed the cutting-edge prevention support provided by each state to propose recommendations to New Hampshire's NAMI-developed suicide prevention coalition. I have also worked for ten years as an associate trainer and team member at my local Panera Bread. Through this job I have gained experience in collaboration, stress management, workplace environment improvement, and most importantly, patience and attitude. New Hampshire has given me what I need to give back; I would be so honored to work with an organization that has the platform to do so.
