About Liam McLaughlin
Liam McLaughlin is an early career research economist and policy professional. He is a graduate of an MSc in European Economic Studies and Laureate of Promotion at the College of Europe (Scottish Government-funded scholar) and holds a First-Class MA (Hons) in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics from the University of Edinburgh. He has advised both the Scottish Government and European Investment Bank on barriers to international and intra-EU investment as well as worked as an editor and economics contributor to several publications. Liam has interned in several roles: at Ernst and Young as a financial modeller, for a Member of Scottish Parliament as well as roles in political campaigns for the UK Labour party. He is a native French and English speaker and well versed in Stata, R, Vensim and QGis. Liam’s prize-winning academic work focuses on the economics of “Slowbalisation” and trade policy, as well as advanced econometric methods in assessing the effectiveness of fiscal rules. Liam is currently working at Aalto University, modelling the Baltic region’s hydrogen market, as part of the European Commission’s H2Valley initiative.
