About Liam Oster

I am currently studying Accounting and Information Systems, Spanish Translation, and Japanese Language at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) and expect to graduate in May of 2025. I chose to study Accounting and Information Systems because my goal is to understand the vital aspects of doing business, from the flow of money through the organization and the rules that govern that money, to the technological infrastructures that underlie modern business practices and make doing business quickly and effectively across international borders feasible. I chose to study Spanish Translation and Japanese Language because I believe that the human element of doing business is often overlooked, and these areas of study allow me to overcome intercultural boundaries, form professional and personal connections with people from my own city and from around the world, and incorporate a diverse variety of perspectives into my work. I am involved with my local community. I am the Vice President of UNR's Japanese Calligraphy club, which involves researching aspects of Japanese culture relevant to calligraphy, delivering presentations to teach the club about those topics during weekly meetings, and coordinating community outreaching events to recruit new members. I have volunteers at elementary schools in my area, helping teachers prepare their classrooms during summers, helping students who were struggling with math and reading 1-on-1, and helping to clean the school, serve students food, and assist in giving supplementary lessons during afterschool programs.
