About Liam Riley

I am a Senior Program Officer in the Research Training Portfolio at the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada. My academic research profile includes work on urban food systems transformation in Africa, gender and development, youth, and the political economy of urban poverty in Malawi. I am a Project Management Professional (PMP) certified by the Project Management Institute. I have extensive experience managing research projects in Malawi and Cameroon, including household food security surveys, small scale food trader surveys, focus group discussions, in-depth interviews, and participatory foodscapes mapping. I have advised several graduate student projects related to food, poverty and migration in sub-Saharan Africa. I have developed and taught undergraduate courses on topics related to global development, globalization, urbanization, food studies, and geographies of gender. I have produced dozens of research publications including theoretically and empirically grounded journal articles and policy-oriented technical reports.
