I'm the Director of Communications and Development at Humanists UK, the charity working for a tolerant world where rational thinking and kindness prevail. In my time at the charity I've overseen a total overhaul of the charity's brand; a substantial growth in donations, membership, and turnover; the successful expansion of our ceremonies across England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and the Channel Islands; and the steady professionalisation of our output into the world. As well as working on communications strategy and long-term organisational planning, my day-to-day role involves oversight of brand, social media, print, and online publications; all of our marketing and promotional activity, including responsibility for website, SEO, generating rich video and graphical content, public awareness campaigns, placing articles and press releases, working with influencers, and overseeing a large national events programme. With my fundraising hat on, I am responsible for meeting ambitious annual targets which fund the organisation's entire programme of work. Our growth is driven by data segmentation and understanding our audience, and our development programme includes generating legacies and major gifts, recruiting new supporters through sophisticated digital targeting, and running a complex schedule of segmented donation appeals year-round. Because we're a small charity, I've done this for the most part as a team of one person, although now thanks to organisational growth I have the privilege of leading a team of five.
