About Liam Workman

I am a student at the University of Calgary who is currently pursuing a BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering, with a minor in Mechatronics. Over the last two years, I have had the opportunity to work both in the midstream and upstream oil and gas sectors. This has given me a detailed knowledge of bitumen production and transport processes, and experience working in both corporate and field environments. I am currently on my coop work term, working in Fort McMurray as an Asset Integrity engineering student for Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL). So far, this has been a very educational experience, providing me with field experience in the areas of failure analysis, degradation mechanisms, technical diagrams, and asset integrity management. Additionally, this work term has allowed me to further develop my data analysis and problem solving skills, using the Lean Six Sigma methodology. In my spare time, I am a technical lead for the Schulich Space Rover Team (SSRT). As one of the University of Calgary's technical design teams, the SSRT strives to build a rover capable of competing in the Canadian International Rover Challenge. As a technical lead, it is my responsibility to manage the design, construction, and improvement of the rover's robotic arm, a role which requires a combination of technical and leadership skills. Being a part of this club has provided me with the opportunity to improve my CAD, component design/creation, communication, leadership, and project management skills.
