About Liam Wright

Throughout my working career, I have held several jobs which have taught me valuable life skills. The positions I held as a Security Officer were for a variety of public services; such as condominiums, hotels, a mall, clients’ private properties, stores, restaurants and special events. The responsibilities entrusted to me included, but were not limited to: protecting patrons and company assets, conducting investigations, writing reports, controlling access to sites, train new employees and monitoring the premises by use of CCTV as well as regular patrols. The importance of teamwork, accountability and analytical skills were essential to handling a variety of situations as they arose. Being able to think and act under pressure to ensure the safest possible outcome was a valuable asset that I attained through the years of work. Individuals’ emotions, intoxication levels, and incompliance would often create an easily volatile environment; through patience, openness, and especially observational awareness, I was able to navigate through these stress induced occurrences with confidence. With a willingness to learn and adapt to each circumstance as needed, my discretion has allowed me to further my interpersonal abilities while maintaining professional and quality service for my duty of care. My most recent job with the City of Toronto provided a different type of experience, working in the public service sector. Understanding the difference between the private sector and the public sector of the work service has contributed to self-growth exponentially. Working for the City has encouraged me to ensure the safety of park users through keeping a clean, harmonious and educational environment. With my previous background in the work field and schooling, confidence when dealing with public relations in the city parks came naturally. In terms of my schooling, Police Foundations has provided me with the essentials of understanding the law, report writing, teamwork, and the importance of being professional, especially when holding a public service position. These lessons had a fundamental impact on my mentality in the workplace and in my daily life endeavours. By the time I transferred over to University, I learned the value of quality research, time management, and communication skills; becoming efficient in Microsoft Word, Excel Spreadsheet, PowerPoint, SPSS, as well as multiple camera surveillance programs.
