About Lian Jiang

Lian obtained her bachelor and masters degrees in Geochemistry from Yangtze University in China. From 2016 to 2020, she pursued her PhD in Organic Geochemistry at Macquarie University. Following her doctoral studies, Lian worked as a research assistant at Macquarie University from March 2021 to March 2023, where her responsibilities included preparing samples for scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and providing technical support for gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and GC-MS/MS analyses. Since March 2023, she has focused on analyzing biomarkers, GDGTs, and carbon isotopes from marine sediments collected during IODP Expedition 378, with the aim of investigating the Paleogene climate of the southern Pacific Ocean. Lian has a robust background in organic geochemistry and is an expert in biomarkers and aromatic compounds found in geological sediments. Her research interests include biomarker-based reconstructions of paleoclimate and paleovegetation. She possesses extensive experience in sample preparation and extraction from various materials, including soils, lake sediments, carbonates, coals, shales, and mudstones. Additionally, Lian is skilled in operating and maintaining several analytical instruments, such as the ASE300, GC-MS, LC-MS, and GC-MS/MS.
