About Lief Hall

Hello! I am an interdisciplinary artist, musician and educator. I am a sessional instructor in the Music Department at Simon Fraser University and a Media Arts Instructor at The Shadbolt Centre for the Arts I teach classes in electroacoustic music, electronic music production and sound design. I have a Bachelors degree in Media Arts from Emily Carr University (2005) and a Masters Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Contemporary Arts from Simon Fraser University (2019). My interdisciplinary art practice includes sound art, audiovisual performance and multimedia installation. As a musician I specialize in vocals, electronic music production and composition. I make music as a solo artist as well as collaborating with a variety of other musicians. I have composed music for dance and film, performed live at numerous shows and festivals, and toured internationally. I am passionate about music and sound, and explore these subjects creatively, academically, ecologically and technologically. I have worked as a sound engineer and audiovisual technician for over 10 years at a variety of galleries and music venues. I worked as a technician for the Western Front for over 6 years, doing live sound and video documentation for live events, as well as video and sound editing. I currently work casually at the Vancouver Art Gallery as an audiovisual technician. Over the past couple years I have been working as a freelance video editor and sound designer, videographer and photographer. I work directly with artists, musicians, galleries and music venues doing production and post production work for artist film, music videos, virtual gallery tours, musical performance and fine arts documentation. I work with artists and organizations that share values, like my own, that support BIPOC and LGBTQ communities and ecological sustainability.
