About Liesbeth Ackermans

As for the violin, I learned to play on it from my fantastic teachers Coosje Wijzenbeek, Viktor Liberman, Keiko Wataya and David Takeno.Learning about music in the broader sense - it happened mostly during my time in the European Union Youth Orchestra and from 1995 until 1998 in the London Symphony Orchestra: diving into the orchestral repertoire, in sharing contact with wonderful musicians, the members of the LSO, enjoying the leadership of ao Sir Colin Davis, Valerie Gergiev, Maxim Vengerov, Mstislav Rostropowitsj, Sir Georg Solti, Michael Tilson Thomas, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Ravi Shankar, Raphaël Frühbeck de Bourgos, André Previn and many others, touring through Europe, the USA, Japan, and Israël, playing extraordinary music in leading concert halls.After that I enjoyed playing with European chamber orchestras: the Salzburg Chamber Soloists, the European Union Chamber Orchestra, Camerata Academica Salzburg, and European Camerata and back in the Netherlands as a free-lance player with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, and Combattimento Consort Amsterdam.As the various aspects of teaching have fascinated me since long, I started teaching, at the Prins Claus Conservatoire, Groningen (2002-2007), the Academie Muzikaal Talent, Utrecht (2009-2015) and presently at the Royal Conservatoire, The Hague (since 2008) and in my private studio. It is a wonderful thing to share the music with students. How true the cliché is: I learn from every one of them.Presently I am experimenting in the field of improvisation - a different way to enter the music from within, enjoy the creative process, play music that is ‘in the actual moment alone’.Resulting in being enrolled as a student again (Master of Music, The Hague) where I am having an interesting time exploring ways to internalize harmony for violinists and the role improvisation can play here. Music is about sharing, creativity and concentration - we can't live without it!
