About Lifeng Wang

Prof. Wang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stony Brook University. Before joining Stony Brook, he worked as a postdoctoral associate at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with Professor Mary C Boyce. He received his B.E.(2001) and Ph.D.(2006) from Tsinghua University, majoring in Solid Mechanics. Prof. Wang received National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award of P.R. China (2008) and Natural Science Award from Ministry of Education of China (2009). His research has been reported in the media, including MIT Today's Spotlight, MIT News, NBC News, Nature News, Material Views, and PhysOrg. In 2023, Prof. Wang was named in the World’s Top 2% of Scientists List, Stanford University. Prof. Wang's research interests encompass a broad spectrum of topics, including materials modeling, computational mechanics, materials testing, characterization, and fabrication. He specializes in the design and characterization of composites and mechanical metamaterials. His expertise extends to rapid prototyping and 3D printing, and the mechanical behaviors of polymer fiber networks, microstructures, and nano-composites, as well as the mechanics and the design of biological and bio-inspired materials.
