Background
About Lillian Hislop
My research interests lie in plant breeding for sustainability and eating quality. I am a Tree Crop Breeder with the Savanna Institute. I am the Black Currant and Elderberry breeder, developing new varieties of berries adapted to the Midwest and agroforestry systems. My postdoctoral research focused on genomic prediction in blueberry genetics for eating quality and ripening time. My dissertation research focused on the genetics of sweet corn carbohydrates and resistance to Sugarcane Mosaic Virus. Additionally, I have an ongoing project looking to make sweet corn perennial by crossing it with teosinte. My PhD research was with Team Sweet and Bill Tracy. I defended my dissertation January of 2022. Before coming to UW-Madison, I did my BS at the University of Illinois, Urbana/Champaign in Bioengineering with a concentration in Computational and Systems Biology
