Dental Health access is a vital cause to me. The ability to identify barriers or gaps within the patient care journey has highlighted so many challenges that the average person would face when accessing the care they need. Now imagine if that person lacked resources (money, transportation, self-advocacy, time off, etc.). At DHA, the leadership team drove change by equipping the patients with the education they needed to help them keep their teeth for a lifetime. We spent countless hours brainstorming on resources, meeting with mentors, and attending focus groups to build partnerships to help keep costs down for patients accessing affordable dental care. In my role as Clinic Director for Dental Health for Arlington, I have managed a nationwide initiative aimed at uniting dentists and communities in delivering essential dental services, including oral hygiene education, screenings, preventive care, and treatment to the underserved population that would otherwise seek dental care through a costly Emergency Room visit. As Clinic Director for Dental Health for Arlington, I facilitated regular interdisciplinary meetings with community stakeholders to address oral health disparities. This collaboration led to the creation of targeted intervention programs for specific underserved groups and fostered stronger community partnerships. My primary goal would be to enhance the quality and accessibility of oral health services, ensuring we address both short-term and long-term objectives. There is always an opportunity to lift the lid on my thinking by collaborating with others committed to promoting evidence-based practices and leveraging data plus experience to drive continuous improvement.
