Background
About Lindsay Brimblecombe
Since graduating from UBC's first Bachelor of Midwifery class in 2005, I have worked as a registered midwife in Fraser Health Authority helping birthing families navigate the monumental transition from pregnancy to parenting. I quickly developed an appetite for continuing education and became involved with various teaching opportunities (MORE OB, NRP, ALARM, FHS, pre-hospital care), and relish sharing evidence-informed peripartum care practices and communication tools with my colleagues in both formal and informal settings. I particularly enjoy teaching the Midwifery Emergency Skills Program through the Midwives Association of BC and the Maternity and Obstetrics Module for Advanced Care Paramedics at the Justice Institute of BC. I enjoyed the challenge of developing the curriculum for the JIBC, as midwives and paramedics have the shared experience of pre-hospital emergency care. I am routinely impressed by the collegiality demonstrated when diverse professions come together with the unified goal of providing the best care possible to birthing people. Over the years I have worked to hone my teaching skills with two overall goals: ensuring the provision of safer care for pregnant people and their babies; and fostering skill development for health care providers in a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. I acknowledge that professional development is an important ongoing endeavour and am currently enrolled in the Master of Health Leadership and Policy in Clinical Education at UBC to be completed in December 2023. I also take advantage of Continuing Professional Development opportunities as they arise, including the Teacher Certificate Program through UBC's Faculty of Medicine in 2019. To each position I bring a calm coaching style, enthusiasm for creativity, and a dedication to enhancing professional standards.
