About Lindsay Downs

I have been teaching young people how to “do research” since 2010. Currently, in my role as a school librarian, I work in collaboration with other faculty members to teach students vital information and digital literacy skills. Prior to my current position, I taught research in the classroom as an information literacy teacher. During that time, I collaborated with colleagues to develop and implement a curriculum that taught students how to navigate a research process. This was done through a capstone project, which required students to write a research paper with an annotated bibliography, present their findings through an oral presentation, use technology in various ways, and apply their research into a real-world setting through an independent project. In 2014, I co-presented with another colleague about our Graduation Project at an AASL Webinar entitled, “Senior/Capstone Project: The Role of the School Librarian.” In 2022, I co-presented at an academic integrity event held virtually by CSEE, exploring, “How librarians can be a resource to Honor Councils & schools to educate students about academic integrity.” Also this year, I presented at NAMLE’s annual conference, sharing information about a course that I developed last year for seventh grade students, called “Get Info Lit.” I have previously been recognized by leaders for my abilities in curriculum development, lesson and unit planning, collaboration, differentiating instruction, and building relationships. I maintain current in my profession through various membership organizations, attending conferences, and taking classes. I also enjoy genealogy, which keep my research skills very sharp.
