Background

About Lindsay Kane

My goal is to create beautiful, irresistible pieces of wearable art. I combine various techniques of jewelry making with my love of printmaking utilizing mixed media to execute contemporary designs. Using an assortment of paper, metal, glass, wire, and semiprecious stones, I am inspired by a shape, or the color of a stone or a texture that is revealed in a print of mine. I am led by the texture & color to produce elements that are particularly flattering on the body. My jewelry starts with a series of prints made in the technique of Intaglio or Relief. These images incorporate color, form, and gradations. The size of the prints directly relates to my process, as it allows me to focus on just one area of a larger art piece and make the details within it special. I make many pieces of jewelry using different cropped sections from one print. For each piece, I sketch shapes to best “frame” the image. The sketches are transferred to metal and cut out with a saw, and the metal is hammered to give texture. The randomness of this process assures that no two finished pieces will be exactly alike. Once the basic shape is achieved, I like to manipulate the metal frame on different areas of the print to find a composition that fits best. The image is then cropped and covered in resin. While the resin sets I select colors and shapes of semiprecious stones to compliment the print. Once dry, I put all of the elements together to create a pendant. The metal and print are riveted together to create the finished look. I consider color, scale and composition when adding beading to achieve a finished piece of jewelry. The piece has to flow well; the beading needs combine with the metal to look amazing on the body. I want women to be so intrigued by my work that they will want to study each piece to learn how the layers have come together. My goal is for my work to stand on its own as a piece of art with a modern edge, making each woman who wears it feel stylish and beautiful.
