About Lis Conarton

Lis has dedicated over two decades to advancing the veterinary field, specializing in pain management and rehabilitation as a veterinary technician specialist in physical rehabilitation and certified veterinary pain practitioner. She holds a position on the board of directors of the Academy of Physical Rehabilitation Veterinary Technicians (APRVT) as the Chief Finance Officer. In 2020, she pursued a graduate degree in Social Work to address challenges faced by veterinary professionals, including workforce shortages, mental health concerns, and the evolving landscape of pet ownership. Her research focuses on the impact of these issues on the human-animal bond. As an advocate for strengthening the human-animal bond, Lis has led discussion groups for veterinary practices, emphasizing client support and interpersonal dynamics within the workplace. She speaks locally and nationally collaborating with veterinary universities, education panels, professional and academic program support and contributes to journal articles and texts on companion animal rehabilitation, pain management, well-being, and fostering a culture of belonging in the veterinary profession. Lis's competencies as a credentialed technician include assessing myofascial imbalances and alleviating pain in canine, feline, and equine species. She also leads educational seminars on workplace culture and interpersonal dynamics, supporting leadership practices among interdisciplinary veterinary team members. In response to the mental health crisis affecting the veterinary community, Lis obtained a Master of Social Work degree from Simmons University, enhancing her capacity to provide essential support. Currently, as the Director of Veterinary Organizational Culture and Engagement at Suveto's Emergency and Critical Care Hospital. In a clinical social work role, she serves as a facilitator for the attachment-based parenting program, Circle of Security (COS) for at risk parents and caregivers. These interdisciplinary approaches enable her to offer varied perspectives informed by a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach that prioritizes cultural humility, empathy, and compassion.
