About Lisa Carroll

The following summary is in regard to my Arts Instruction experience: As a working Artist, Designer and Art's Instructor I’ve followed a versatile path, gaining a wide variety of skills along the way. Though I began as a painter and teach painting, drawing and collage, I am often most intrigued by the students’ engagement with the three-dimensional. I approach teaching sculpture primarily through the use of wood, found objects, paper and fabric. While my methodology is skill-building through continual observation and practice, it is of primary concern to establish a supportive environment for every student to feel safe to even begin to try new techniques. What I most often hear in various expressions from student’s ages 8 to 65 is, “I can’t do art because I am not an artist.” As educators we know that creativity is at the core of being human but there are damaging beliefs that stand in the way that need to be addressed. I am here to encourage every individual to tap into their creativity not to become professional artists, though some will, but to become wholesome, happy and intelligent humans. I begin where the student is; I’m as much an inspiring motivational coach as I am an instructor of techniques.
