About Lisa Edson

Dedicated, responsible, and highly motivated rising senior looking to enrich skills and understanding of medicine through exposure. I am incredibly passionate about Biological Sciences. My goal is to go to Medical School and one day apply all that I have learned through my exposure and practice, to aiding patients. However, my road to discovering this passion was not easy. I started my college career as a Dietetics major. My complete and utter fear of chemistry caused me to change my major to Family and Child Sciences. After the first few months of my sophomore year of college I had this haunting feeling that I was making a mistake. I realized I couldn't let fear of failure keep me from chasing my dreams. After many nursing, biology, and chemistry advisors told me I was too late to start pursuing pre-medical sciences as my major, I felt incredibly discouraged. I distinctly remember one pre-nursing advisor laughing at me and saying "I will be impressed if you manage to get into one of the science classes which are reserved for students who knew they wanted to be in medicine when they started college. You are too late." Rather than letting this discourage me, I looked the advisor in the eye and told her "Anything is possible." Three years later I am a Family and Child Sciences major (since I was 'too late' to switch majors) with three minors in psychology, biology, and chemistry. I have a 3.93 GPA and I have been in the top 5-10% of every science class I have taken. I have spent hours shadowing doctors and growing my passion for medicine. I was told there wasn't a path for me, so I made my own. I couldn't be happier. I channel this same level of passion into all things I do. I encourage those around me to find their passions and take risks because once you start chasing your dreams you quickly learn that truly, anything is possible.
