About Lisa Modesto

When people ask me, “what do you do for work?” the answer is a bit complicated! I started my career as a Human Resources leader. I spent 5+ years responsible for HR at a 500+ employee, multi-site manufacturing company, with both union and non-unionized locations. I was accountable for all aspects of people development and management, coaching key business leaders, and implementing best practices. Subsequently, I took on my hardest role to date, and became a mother to two rambunctious young boys. Rather than return to corporate HR, I took on a new challenge, and started an independent human resources consulting service, Modesto HR Advisory. Modesto HR Advisory has helped small to medium-sized businesses in diverse industries including technology, financial services, construction, health services and marketing by developing practical HR solutions and providing both strategic and tactical support. As a result of my work with an incredible client, Greenbridge Foodservice, I joined the team on a part-time basis covering a maternity leave as Marketing Manager, and subsequently stayed on part-time with this fantastic team as Business Analyst for the next 1.5 years. Today, I'm still happy to be part of this team as fractional HR Manager. In my free time, I share my excitement for HR, labour relations and employment law with students at Conestoga College and through OntarioLearn online continuing education courses, both through facilitation of existing courses and development of new course deliveries. I hold an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Wilfrid Laurier University, where I graduated on the Dean's List with a concentration in Human Resources. I am also a Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) as per the Human Resources Professionals Association, and was short-listed for the CHRL Of The Year award in 2015.
