About Lisa Saefong

I become a Child and Adolescent Development major at San Jose State University as an incoming freshmen Fall 2011. Since my years here at San Jose State, I’ve taken courses that has helped direct me into a career I will love. I chose Child and Adolescent Development as my major, not because I want to become a teacher, but, because I want to go into the medical field. I came into San Jose State hoping to become a Pediatrician in my near future but when I declared Kinesiology as my minor in Spring 2014, my career goal changed. I took an Intro to Adapted Aquatics class with Professor Janet Clare that spring semester and this class was the most rewarding. In this class we were to teach Special Education students, most have Down Syndrome, how to swim and at the end of the semester, the students would race at the Special Olympics. Being able to work with these amazing kids taught me so much patients. I knew I wanted to work with children, but after watching these kids swim and dip their heads into the water, I wanted to work with them more. Now, my future career goal is to become an Occupational therapist for Special Educated children. I chose Occupational therapy because working with children with special disabilities takes time and patients. With this I could help families, patients and caregivers how to adapt to their everyday daily living situations. Being able to help other people and seeing smiles on their faces is what I am aiming for.
