About Lisa Spencer

Ever since I was a young child I have been acutely aware of, what I now know in adulthood to be, social injustice, and I have wanted to play my part in working alongside people to make theirs and others lives different. In both my professional and personal life I have striven to challenge injustices through using my skills, knowledge, values and other privileges to create, support, and explore transformational change. I have done this as a practitioner, through activism and through higher education and research, working alongside and with those experiencing oppression, division and inequalities as well as in education and research to try to generate critical knowledge. I am passionate about the role of education in creating change and a ‘better’ world. I see as vital the creative use of resources to authentically enable the voices of those affected by socially unjust experiences to be integral in education. The generation of knowledge and change directly from those who know because of their own lives is something I always aim for.
