About Lisa Ware

I am excited about being involved in cutting-edge research on non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Africa and how interventions in individuals, communities and healthcare systems can ensure prevention or early detection. My research interests focus on the modifiable risk factors for chronic disease and how these can be influenced to prevent, delay or manage chronic disease. These modifiable risk factors include diet, exercise, weight management, stress, smoking and alcohol use; including how these risk factors cluster within individuals to understand how best behavioural interventions can modify disease trajectories. Particular interests are: hypertension and cardiovascular disease prevention, including using novel technology to influence behaviour; and vascular health in relation to brain health and cognitive function. Research areas include understanding individuals’ capacity for behaviour change and health management within their social, economic, and physical environment. I am married to Mark who calls himself a retired carpenter and my greatest supporter. I enjoy occasional long-distance running (I have completed five marathons and one ultramarathon) and love living in South Africa.
