About Liz Buxton

I’m the Director of Operations at the Western Massachusetts Food Processing Center where I lead a diverse team that includes justice involved individuals and those in recovery, and together we work to build local food systems and economies. We partner with farmers, entrepreneurs, and local businesses to create a connected, local food system by bringing new ideas to market, connecting food producers to food consumers, and shaping policy. Our services include working with farmers to turn crops into value-added products, co-packing for established food businesses, and supporting entrepreneurs with research, development, and prototyping. I also work closely with local leaders to advocate for hiring justice involved individuals and those in recovery. Throughout the year I can be found serving on panels and advisory boards and giving talks on opportunities to drive local economies by strengthening our communities in these ways. I have also served as a consultant and manager on several grants including: U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Local Food Promotion Program, Executive Office of Economic Development’s Community Empowerment and Reinvestment Grant Program, National Institute of Food and Agriculture Food Access Grant, Local Enterprise Assistance Fund (LEAF), and the M&T Charitable Foundation. Prior to joining the Franklin County Community Development Corporation over ten years ago, I directed food service operations for K-12, post-secondary, and private institutions.
