Background

About Liz Evans

Since 1988, I have been a published writer, contributing to a wide selection of magazines and newspapers in the UK and Australia. I spent 10 years as a music journalist in London during the 1990s, interviewing the likes of Nirvana, Bjork, Pearl Jam, Courtney Love, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nine Inch Nails and many many others, and I also wrote two books on women and rock culture for Pandora Press/HarperCollins. I also gained experience as a TV presenter and radio critic, and began speaking at public cultural events. More recently, I have been focused on the arts, parenting, and psychology, writing lead and cover features, and interviewing a wide range of individuals for publications including Dumbo Feather, Lunch Lady, TasWeekend, Womankind and The Conversation. I am also a trained psychoanalytic psychotherapist (no longer practicing) with two clinical qualifications and an MA in Jungian and Post-Jungian Studies from the University of Essex. I hold a Creative Writing PhD from the University of Tasmania. My scholarship-funded research focused on the representation of complex female psychologies in contemporary domestic noir fiction, while the creative component consisted of writing a domestic noir novel. Since 2018, I have taught on undergraduate courses including Sustainability Literacy, Creative Writing: Professional Practice, and Creative and Critical Reading. My academic publications include papers on ecopsychology, ecofeminism, and the framing of the female psyche in contemporary thriller fiction, and I have contributed a chapter on psychopathology and the antiheroine in a scholarly anthology. I was awarded two 2022 Varuna Residential Fellowships for my fiction, including the inaugural Pitch Me fellowship.
