Background
About Liz Johnson
Liz has served as Grand Vision Foundation's Executive Director since Grand Vision is a non-profit organization which was established to support and restore the Warner Grand Theatre in San Pedro, a 1500-seat historic art deco movie palace. The theater is owned by the City of Los Angeles and poorly resourced. In the Liz spearheaded a capital campaign for the Warner Grand Theatre, raising $1million to restore this beloved landmark to community use. Grand Vision continues to serve as the Friends Group to the Warner Grand Theatre and supports its ongoing productions through marketing and technical upgrades. Grand Vision has greatly expanded to include Meet The Music, which enriches the lives of public school students with hands on music lessons and attendance at professional concerts. Team Taiko, teaches the art of Japanese Taiko drumming to adult ESL students. Also under the Grand Vision umbrella is the Grand Annex, an intimate listening room just a few doors away from the Warner Grand. These two venues and the performances that are hosted in each, have revitalized the downtown San Pedro area, bringing new audiences to 6th Street on a regular basis. Liz holds a BA in Art from Yale University and an MA in Urban Planning from UCLA. She worked as an economic development specialist in the community development departments of the cities of West Hollywood and Long Beach and has wide experience with project administration, board development, fundraising, community development, grassroots outreach and urban revitalization. Liz received a “Bold Vision” award and “Women of Distinction” award from the San Pedro Chamber of Commerce for her leadership in community development through the arts.
