About Lize Brown

I have been fascinated with animals, nature and the science behind how it all works since my parents took me camping for the first time. I have been lucky enough to pursue this since I left high school. After finishing my research on amphibians, I had a great opportunity to promote amphibian conservation and awareness for the Scientific Society of Namibia, through radio segments, public presentations and the development of educational material. Thanks to that experience, I found a passion for public speaking and engaging people in what I care most about - nature and our relationship to it. I got to continue my passion for public education as well as for animals when I started volunteering at a wildlife rehab clinic. This launched my career into animal husbandry. I worked as a zookeeper for a while where I got to work with animals every day (including amphibians!) as well as have an amazing platform for public education. Currently I work as a biologist for an environmental consulting company based out of Las Vegas. Though we look out for all kinds of wildlife, our main focus is the protected Mojave desert tortoise. We are the first line of defense for these threatened tortoises in their natural habitat and we do what we can, including educating people, to try and keep them safe.
