About Lizette Leon

My identity and learnings have been shaped through various experiences I had through my interactions with family, friends, beliefs, traditions, education, and my career. I have come to see the world differently through my college education, a stronger relationship I have with my parents, and in most recent years, my faith as well. Coming from a low-income, immigrant, Mexican family, my desire to help others started at home, then in school, church, and now in my career. My leadership philosophy is to be the voice for those students who do not have one, to listen, empathize and inform them so that they will not feel marginalized. The theories that I identify with and shape my interactions with students are Servant and Transformational Leadership. These theories resonated with me as I learned them in class and have actively practiced those theories during my conversation with students. Currently, I implement this aspect of leadership in my job. Working in financial aid, I work on advising students at California Baptist University about college financial aid, from scholarships to student loans. I work towards making educational possibilities for families and include how to successfully navigate the financial aid process. Serving students of diverse backgrounds and working with them to be able to pursue a college education through effective communication and empathy.
