About Lizz Aston
Lizz Aston is a textile artist, educator and designer. Her work contemporizes historic textiles while exploring ways of abstracting them visually and materially to create new meanings for the viewer. By playing with methods of abstraction and incorporating handmade processes with digital ones, she deconstructs familiar patterns and reimagines them as large-scale, three-dimensional, distorted and exploded views. Aston is a graduate of the Crafts & Design Program at Sheridan College, and holds a Bachelor of Design in Industrial Design from OCAD University. She is an alumna of the Craft & Design Artist-in-Residence Program at Harbourfront Centre (2009-2012), and is currently an acting Textile Studio Advisor to the program. Aston has been commissioned public artworks for Google, Harvard Kennedy School, Holt Renfrew, General Catalyst and Lululemon and has worked on sponsored projects with H&M, the City of Toronto, 3M and the Japanese Paper Place. Her work is represented in public and private collections and has been exhibited across Canada, the USA, Australia and South Korea.
