About Logan Germain

In my PhD research, I’m working to develop a New Approach Method (NAM) that uses an in vitro embryonic cell model to screen the toxicity of pharmaceuticals and environmental chemicals. I integrate high-throughput bioinformatics with mechanistic toxicology to screen for early indicators of carcinogenic and metabolic disruption. Through this model, I’ve uncovered how chemical exposures alter gene regulation and epigenetics in key pathways involved in cancer, diabetes, and obesity. My research bridges molecular biology, toxicology, and computational biology, with direct applications for drug/ecotoxicology regulatory science and early-stage drug development. Alongside this technical work, I’ve built a strong track record in scientific communication: securing over $150K CAD in funding (including an NSERC Doctoral Scholarship), publishing peer-reviewed papers, presenting at 8+ conferences (Best Poster Award), and a finalist of the 3-Minute Thesis competition. I specialize in translating complex science for funding bodies, journal reviewers, and non-technical audiences. I’m now looking to apply this combination of scientific innovation, critical thinking, and clear communication to roles in life sciences venture capital/creation, consulting, or technical due diligence - especially where emerging technologies need to be evaluated and translated into business strategy.
