About Logan Swaren

I am a Professional Geoscientist with training in environmental geochemistry, hydrogeology, geochemical modelling, soil chemistry, and biogeochemistry. My technical experience includes metal leaching and acid rock drainage (MLARD) characterization and management, applied mineralogical investigations, mine water treatment techniques, water quality monitoring/modelling/prediction, biogeochemical sampling programs, and groundwater monitoring. Previously, I was a Postdoctoral Environmental Researcher at the Calgary Research Center where I provided support to both mining and in situ assets from a geochemical and hydrogeological perspective. My role covered a broad range of responsibilities including project management and coordination, producing technical reports, geochemical modelling, reviewing technical documents from third party vendors, consultants, and academics. I’ve led the design of groundwater sampling programs to provide data for detailed understanding of physical and biogeochemical processes affecting the transport and possible attenuation of constituents in the subsurface. I have taken the results from field testing programs, laboratory-based experiments, field pilots and synthesized written reports for internal uses, for peer-reviewed publication, and as abstracts to present at international conferences. I have developed business cases to support the advancement of research, operational, and capital projects. I have 4 years of academic research experience in geochemistry, surface chemistry, analytical geochemistry, biochar applications, and remediation technology with a focus on divalent metals such as cadmium, cobalt, copper, nickel, and zinc. My research has resulted in the publication of 4 first-authored, peer-reviewed, research articles in internationally recognized journals, and contribution to over 20 co-authored publications and conference presentations. Additional industry experience includes, but is not limited to, grant writing and coordinating for a biotechnology start-up with technical marketing components, oil sands hydrogeology, municipal water treatment operations, natural gas distribution, and urban beekeeping.
