About Logan Zelk

I've always been motivated more than anything else by my hunger for experience. And so when I graduated two years ago, I found myself at a very confusing crossroads. The principle was being put to the test. Everything in my bones demanded I leap out there and let the world help me process through its language of desert roads and beach goers and mountain men the fact that my childhood, its very last stronghold remnant, had finally succumbed to the passage of time. No more a college student! I wanted to quietly celebrate with a sad face the hard-won achievement, symbolized by the diploma in my hand, the brilliant twisty signatures. I look at it now and still think the same thing. What had been my home for the past four, roughly five years? The gates were already closed in an unadorned, dusty silence. And what did I turn to find but an outer world up in flames? I was admittedly terrified. Lo and behold! Ever since I took that initial leap into a landscape flipped upside down by Covid, I've worked in radically different environments. I worked in the snows of Wisconsin, in the mountains of California, on a sixty-acre farmstead in Kentucky, on a huge manor in New England, a massive elderly community in Florida, then as an engineer for a billion dollar pharmaceutical factory. I've assisted some remarkable people and heard their stories. I became part of communities and wove a family of disparate pieces spanning the continent. In the process, I learned skills ranging from milking cows to managing timesheets, conducting market research for book proposals to restoring busted PVC piping. In 2020 alone I traveled over miles to see what this country has to offer. I consider it the second phase of my education.
