About Lora Abrams

While the majority of my career has been spent in the classroom setting where I am currently serving as a History Educator, I found tremendous joy and personal fulfillment working as the Program Director for the Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Yuma Station Library while my family was stationed there. As a result of that experience, I obtained a Master’s Degree in Library Science at Texas Woman’s University. I am currently pursuing my PhD at TWU. During my time as Program Director, I coordinated and administrated all aspects of the various programs at the Station Library. My job was to successfully develop and plan new programs, as well as improve upon existing programs for civilian and military patrons of all ages. MCAS Yuma Station Library offered unique programs for patrons all the way from birth through retirement age. During my first year as Program Director, program attendance significantly increased and 6 separate events had to be relocated to utilize outdoor space in order to stay compliant with the building occupancy limit. Although MCAS Yuma Station Library is one of the smallest branches of the Navy and Marine Corps library system, MCAS Yuma consistently offered more events and programs under my tenure than many of the USMC library branches that had larger facilities and greater access to budgeted funds. My success as Program Director was a combination of preparation, integrity, and dedication. The same decisive leadership and interpersonal skills, coupled with the advancement of knowledge and skills being obtained through the pursuit of a Master’s Degree in Library Science makes me qualified to be a successful addition to your team.
