About Lora Kalkman

Lora Kalkman is thrilled to serve as Special Assistant to Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman, who succeeds her husband, Mayor Oscar Goodman, winning 61% of the vote in June 2011. Lora brings to the position a diverse background in government relations, legislative and fiscal analysis, management and public relations. She says,"Gratifying work is really a lifestyle; it permeates social relationships and daily life in a way that energizes, inspires and leads to success." Lora's experience includes working as a writer for Michigan Governor James Blanchard, and as a Legislative Assistant to U. S. Congressman Bob Traxler, an Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman. She also served as Campaign Coordinator for U. S. Congressman James Barcia. Additionally, Lora has managed a tri-county government agency and two medical facilities, one a University of Michigan start-up where she was responsible for writing and executing the budget and business plan. Lora holds a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Michigan (UM) where she was named a Rackham School Fellow and graduated with a 4.0 grade point. As a UM undergraduate, she received numerous scholarships for academics and leadership, having been elected class president four consecutive years in a high school. A UM Honors Program inductee, she received a scholarship to study at the University of Oxford in England and was named Scholar of the Year by the Wall Street Journal, graduating with a Bachelors of Business Administration degree with high distinction-all while working full-time managing her family's video stores. Lora has also served in a myriad of community leadership roles and as a paid and volunteer advisor to numerous local, state, and national political campaigns, including that of U.S. President Bill Clinton. Additionally, Lora is the published author of children’s stories appearing in fifty books distributed worldwide, including adaptations for Walt Disney Corp.
