About Lorelei Lyons

After over 30 years of dedicated service in Indigenous Education in Burnaby, I recently concluded a rewarding role that enabled me to passionately advocate for Indigenous learners and their families. Utilizing the holistic framework of the Medicine Wheel, I focused on nurturing the social and emotional well-being of students, addressing the interconnected areas of Emotional, Physical, Spiritual, and Mental health. My commitment centered on empowering students to achieve both academic and personal success, instilling essential values such as Generosity, Belonging, Independence, and Mastery to ensure their growth within and beyond the classroom environment. Currently, I am applying my expertise through my vibrant home-based business, where I offer dynamic workshops infused with cultural wisdom. These engaging sessions are thoughtfully designed to promote balance, self-care, mindfulness, and a strong sense of community from an Indigenous perspective. Available in both in-person and virtual formats, these workshops foster team building, cultural awareness, and the development of Indigenous competencies. I have developed and facilitated curriculum on Indigenous Cultural Competencies for various cohorts and have provided cultural guidance for the AWARE Society. I am privileged to serve as an Elder in Residence at Capilano University and as a member of the Elders Wisdom Council at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Additionally, I act as an Elder / knowledge carrier for Métis family services. I am deeply committed to promoting understanding, respect, and collaboration within the Indigenous community and beyond, and I look forward to continuing this vital work in new and meaningful ways.
